This is a game you have probably never heard of. Yes, you haven’t. I see that confused look on your face. This game I am reviewing today is Geneforge 4. In my opinion, it’s one of the best CRPG’s ever, second only to Planescape: Torment, another game you probably haven’t heard of (but that review will have to wait for another day, mainly when I buy that freaking $60 game.) Now Geneforge 4 is made by a small shareware company called Spiderweb Software that makes (duh) shareware games. It i
Review: Avernum 3 March 6th, 2008 0 Rating: In what has become a world of high-end names and million dollar productions, I find it refreshing to try games developed by smaller, independent studios. Today, we’ll be looking at Avernum 3, by Spiderweb Software. The Avernum series is a remake of an older trio of games, Blades of Exile 1-3. It follows the adventures of your characters in the subterranean caverns of Avernum, where the tyrannical Empire of the surface imprisons criminals and oth
It’s a bit of a shameless plug, but as Avernum V’s from an indie developer that has thrived for nearly 20 years creating, publishing and digitally distributing top adventure games, I don’t feel like I’m compromising my integrity when I say this game is awesome, one of the best in the series. I’ve taken a few days off work, I’ve got a ton of triple-A games to play, yet this 30MB download is consuming all my leisure time. If you’re into proper geek games, this will surely flick your switch.
I am reading The Wood Wife by Terri Windling. I rather like the design of the book. It is printed on acid free paper. I wish they wrote down the bond of the paper and the typeface. I very much like the cover design. I checked back at Spiderweb Software where I had originally started the thread, What Have You Been Reading Lately? For a while there were no posts. The total post count at end was 667 posts. This blog was partially related to that thread. They have a new thread on What Have You Bee
Avernum 5 Posted by Derek Yu Tue, 19 Feb 2008 12:45:00 GMT Jeff Vogel and Spiderweb Software have been going strong for over a decade now, having released well over a dozen full-length shareware RPGs for Windows and Macintosh since 1994. It’s been a bit of a wait, but I’m happy to announce that his latest game, Avernum 5, has finally been released for both platforms (including demos)! Spiderweb games have never much been known for their presentation, so Avernum 5’s graphics haven’t progress
Spiderweb Software is a small video game developer founded in 1994 by Jeff Vogel and located in Seattle, Washington. Its primary focus is on creating shareware games for the Apple Macintosh and Microsoft Windows. The company is fairly unique in that it first develops games for Macintosh systems before porting them to the Windows platform.
Spiderweb Software is most notable for the following roleplaying games:
The Exile fantasy series of underground adventure
The Avernum series, which are expanded updates of the Exile series with several enhancements to the visual design and gameplay
The games Blades of Exile and Blades of Avernum, which include scenario creation kits and are a continuation of the previously mentioned series
The Geneforge series, notable for its unique gameplay involving the creation of creatures to assist the player
Nethergate, a fantasy game based upon the Roman occupation of Britain
Spiderweb's most recent project is Avernum 5, the fifth installment of the Avernum series, which was released for the Macintosh on November 13, 2007. The Windows port was released on February 18, 2008.
The company previously provided distribution services and other support for shareware developer Richard White. In June 2007, Jeff Vogel announced that the company would no longer be supporting Richard White's games, though they are still available for download through Spiderweb's main site.
