Maybe you should sit down for this… In 2006, ’round 2 years ago to the month, Nintendo was tit-deep in E3 showing of their “Wii” and its games. At the time, there was a somewhat even split between games aimed at Nintendo’s new casual direction, and consolation prizes for the core fans such as Disaster: Day of Crisis. Disaster was a little promising, under construction at Monolith Soft, makers of Baten Kaitos, Xenogears (kinda) and Xenosaga. When a few screenshots showed up at the tail-end o
Disaster adverted, Disaster: Day of Crisis delayed not cancelled
I’m guessing most of you probably know this by now, but Disaster: Day of Crisis won’t be appearing in Japan on July 3rd. However, Nintendo’s statement doesn’t have the pejorative overtone the words “delayed indefinitely”, as stated by another website, imply. Here’s the official press release, in Japanese of course. It explains Disaster: Day of Crisis is being held back so Monolith Soft has additional development time to improve the game. Unlike the Super Smash Brothers delay announcement
Time To Panic? Disaster: Day Of Crisis Delayed Indefinitely
In a press release from Nintendo of Japan, Monolith Soft's Wii-exclusive Disaster: Day of Crisis has been removed from the 2008 release list, with no new date expected anytime soon. According to QJ.net, the press release states that the "game's development period was extended in order to increase the quality of the finished product," which sounds like corporate-speak for "don't hold your breath." The last time we saw anything about the game, we got a short article, a few photos reconfirming
Monolith Soft, Incorporated or MLSI(株式会社モノリスソフト,Kabushiki-Gaisha Monorisu Sofuto?) is an entertainment company in Japan that has created video games for various consoles like the PlayStation 2, Nintendo GameCube, Wii, Nintendo DS, and cell phones. It is now a subsidiary of Nintendo, making it a first-party developer. The company was founded in 1999 by producer Hirohide Sugiura after he left Square Co. and accepted an investment from Namco. As of May 6, 2007, Nintendo owns controlling interest in the company after Namco Bandai sold 80% of its 96% stake in Monolith Soft to Nintendo. This went into effect May 1, 2007.
Monolith Soft is usually associated with the Xenosaga series, a series of role-playing games on the PS2 console. Some of MLSI's staff are former employees of Square Co., who transferred to the new company after the creation of Chrono Cross. They were previously involved with the creation of Xenogears, from which the Xenosaga series is derived.
