    HAL Laboratory

Mother 3 translation seven months away

Filed under: Fan stuff, Homebrew, Video Celebrating Mother 3's release in Japan three years ago today, Starmen.net co-founder and fan-translation project lead Tomato posted an update on the unofficial localization's outlook. With ten months of work already behind them, the team predicts that the completed English patch (GBA ROM required) still needs about seven months of hacking, script editing, and testing. While that may sound like a long time, keep in mind that some fan-driven translations

    Review: Super Smash Bros. Brawl

Fed by a barrage of hype, Super Smash Bros. Brawl represents the Wii’s first truly great game of 2008, and like a siren’s call is near-impossible to resist, particularly for those that fancy allying themselves with the hardcore. Such fevered anticipation can often mean a death sentence for games that aren’t on the verge of perfection. Thankfully, however, Brawl builds upon the series’ success, and fine tunes the experience into one of the year’s crowning achievements. This is particularly rema

HAL Laboratory, Inc. (æ ªå¼ä¼šç¤¾ãƒãƒ«ç ”究所 Kabushikigaisha Haru KenkyÅ«jo?) is a Japanese video game developer that was founded on February 21, 1980. Its name comes from the HAL 9000 computer in the film 2001: A Space Odyssey. The company is most famous for its character Kirby, the protagonist of the eponymous game series, as well as the Super Smash Bros. series. It is a second-party development studio of Nintendo.

HAL Laboratory started off making games for the MSX system and the Commodore VIC-20. During the early 1980s, some of their games since the 1986 Famicom Disk System game Gall Force (based on the anime series of the same name) have been released also on Nintendo systems.

In many of its games during the early to mid-'90s it used the name HALKEN (derived from their literal Japanese name "HAL KENkyūjo") as well as HAL Laboratory. Some of its early titles were also released as HAL America, a North American subsidiary of the company.

The current president of Nintendo, Satoru Iwata, was a former president of HAL. Other important figures include Masahiro Sakurai, who created the Kirby character and the Super Smash Bros. franchise, and now leads his own company, Sora Ltd.
