Gateway to Apshai is a computer game for the Commodore 64, ColecoVision, and Atari 400/800 home computers, developed by The Connely Group and published by Epyx.

Although a sequel to Temple of Apshai, Gateway to Apshai chronologically takes place beforehand. It is, in principle, a more action-oriented version of Temple of Apshai, with smoother and faster graphics routines, more intuitive controls, and less RPG-style background and room descriptions.

    Story

In Gateway to Apshai, the player assumes the role of an unnamed adventurer, who tries to survive through an unending series of dungeons filled with both treasure and monsters. The game follows a series of levels of increasing difficulty. Each level can be played on a freely selectable dungeon. Once the player has reached level 8, this level perpetually repeats until the player runs out of lives, ending the game.

    Gameplay

The player is initially armed with a dagger and clad in leather armour. As play progresses, he can obtain new weapons, armour, potions, eye glasses, and scrolls containing magical spells. Various enemies, ranging from simple rats via snakes to giants, inhabit the dungeons. The player must kill them with weapons or magical spells.
