If around 100 employees get sacked, some disappointment is bound to turn into gossip. Rumors from ex-employees about unconfirmed LucasArts games is a gas, but one special rumor makes me giggle like a girl having a pillow fight - The unannounced Knights of the Old Republic III (KOTOR 3) is going to be an MMO! Although we’ve already heard this before, it feels good hearing it from different sources. How reliable a recently fired employee can be, is still up for debate though. The sacked employ
Haze, the latest release from Ubisoft and developer Free Radical Design and exclusive PS3 title, was a game I thought I would really enjoy since I’m such a sci-fi shooter lover. I played the demo, I decided to play more. Do I regret that decision? Read on, dear friends, read on… Alright, I can’t fake it here, this was a major disappointment. The thing that really bothers me though is how easily this game could have been better, well, the story anyway. The premise is this: you’re a Mantel soldi
Filed under: Reviews Developed by Free Radical, the ex-Rare employees responsible for the excellent Timesplitters series, Haze has been a long time coming. The game has suffered from multiple delays as well as exclusivity confusion over the last year. Haze promised to deliver an immersive story, balanced multiplayer and seamless online and offline co-op play. It was also backed up by some excellent live-action trailers. Unfortunately, it becomes apparent whilst playing the game that, while the
Timesplitters was a great success on the Playstation 2 with it being a launch title and sequels were just as successful. Free Radical Design is a video game developer, based in Nottingham, England. Sometimes abbreviated FRD, the company is well known for their TimeSplitters video game series and has made a name for themselves as a first person shooter developer.
History
Initially, most of FRD's employees previously worked for the game developer Rare. While at Rare, the future FRD team (which consisted of team leader David Doak, Steve Ellis, Karl Hilton, Graeme Norgate and Lee Ray) worked on the Nintendo 64 titles GoldenEye 007 and Perfect Dark. In late 1998 and early 1999 this team left Rare to form their own company. Free Radical Design was up and running by April 1999 with their first release being TimeSplitters for the PlayStation 2 in 2000. TimeSplitters attracted a lot of attention at the time, because much of the coverage associated with the game made sure to note that it was developed by former Rare employees who had worked on the critically acclaimed first person shooter GoldenEye 007.
