4x4 EVO 2 is a video game developed by Terminal Reality for the PlayStation 2, Xbox, GameCube, Windows and Macintosh platforms. It is the sequel to 4x4 EVO and features more trucks, and more racing tracks than the original game and is quite possibly the best 4x4 Game ever.

4x4 EVO 2 is a racing game in which the general point of the gameplay is to cross the finish line before all of the other vehicles. The courses are primarily in extreme environments such as deserts, canyons, and other off-road locales. Players are allowed to customize their vehicle to their liking with a variety of engine, suspension, wheels, tires, and other aftermarket parts and modifications.

There are a total of 112 selectable trucks and SUVs ranging from compact to full size from the following manufacturers.

    • Chevrolet
    • GMC
    • Dodge
    • Jeep
    • Infiniti
    • Nissan
    • Toyota
    • Lexus
    • Mitsubishi

Ford was pulled from the game after licensing issues (present in the original 4x4 Evolution). Ford is said to have wanted too much for the use of their vehicles. There is a user-made pack available that includes these vehicles converted from 4x4 Evolution.

4x4 EVO 2 is well known for its multiplayer feature on the PC and Mac, which allows players to race against other competitors online. The game has a very large multiplayer community, and it continues to grow, even though the game is considered "outdated" compared to some of the new games available. The main chatroom is moderated by operators. The game is also made with add-ons in mind, or at least is very accepting of such, much like its predecessors. A track editor was released later following the release of the game itself.

In late 2007, Terminal Reality's contract with the car manufacturers who's vehicles were used in the game expired. Thus making it illegal for them to sell the game. That made it so that the only way for them to legally "deal out" 4x4 Evolution 2 was by "giving it away" for free. So, TRI gave KC Vale exclusive rights to host the game on his website for FREE. To obtain the free version of the game, which is stripped of the vehicles and includes several user-made vehicles, go to vales.com/evo2, register for an account, and then follow the links on the front page to the free download link.

Team RCG (Really Crazy Gamers) have some of the most well known tracks for this game made by some of their members. RTMAC (Road To Max Air's Cabin, or Return To Max Air's Cabin) is probably the most well known track made by a player by the name of Max Air.

Many Up and Coming Truck makers are making their way up in modeling and editing vehicles such as Kickflip360, Lime, landlubber, Breezer, and several others.

More info about Multiplayer: There are two different types of tracks. Ones that come in .POD files and ones that are .LTE files. LTE files are for evo1, but most will work in Evo2. There is a "patch" that includes Evo1's track files to make all LTE tracks compatible with Evo2. There are also two different types of track .POD files. The first type is Evo1 track PODs. These will not work in Evo2. The other type is Evo2 track PODs. These will obviously work in Evo2. LTE track files can be downloaded WHILE in multiplayer. POD tracks can too as long as they are a direct download.

Trucks in Multiplayer: If you downloaded a modded truck that another player does not have, they will see the vehicle that is on top of their POD.INI list. the POD.INI list is what tells the game what .POD files you have installed. .POD files are basically uncompressed ZIP files with different coding,
